Road Categories for Temporary Traffic Management

Road types play a big role in determining the most appropriate temporary traffic management measures.

The Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management Part 8: Processes and Procedures provides clear criteria for classifying roads into temporary traffic management categories. This ensures the right temporary traffic management practices are implemented for different road settings.

The chart below explains different road categories used for temporary traffic management. It shows that safety requirements increase with higher traffic volumes and speed limits.
