Social media terms of use
We use several social media services as part of our communications activities. For example, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube.
These terms of use exist in addition to any other terms of use/service and conditions imposed by the respective social media platform. These terms also apply to all our social media pages. By engaging with us on our pages, you agree to these terms of use.
South Australian public sector staff must also abide by the:
- whole-of-government guidelines for the use of social media
- Code of Ethics for the South Australian Public Sector.
Our content
Our pages provide information to the community about a range of our department's activities.
We endeavour to always provide accurate content. On occasion, information we post on our social media pages may be incorrect or may change.
Any promotions or competitions posted on our social media pages are in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, the social media platform.
Acceptable use
We encourage discussions, questions and feedback on our social media pages. We respect everyone’s right to their own opinions and thoughts. But we ask that you be always respectful towards other users.
Non-acceptable use and content moderation
Content posted publicly to our social media pages may be hidden or removed if we deem it as:
- harassment
- bullying
- abusive
- threatening
- graphic in nature
- offensive
- overtly sexual
- nudity
- racist
- containing profanities
- explicit
- discriminatory
- defamatory
- intentionally misleading
- fraudulent
- trolling
- advertisement or spam
- infringing intellectual property rights
- containing personal information
- otherwise inappropriate.
We may not respond to content posted privately (such as a direct message) to our social media pages that we deem as:
- harassment
- bullying
- abusive
- threatening
- graphic in nature
- offensive
- overtly sexual
- nudity
- racist
- containing profanities
- explicit
- discriminatory
- defamatory
- intentionally misleading
- fraudulent
- trolling
- advertisement or spam
- infringing intellectual property rights
- otherwise inappropriate.
If you engage with our social media pages in an unacceptable way as outlined above, we may send you a message or comment to remind you of our social media terms of use. If you continue to engage in this way, we may block you.
Under some circumstances of extremely inappropriate engagement, we may:
- block you without any warning
- forward your content to South Australia Police.
We attempt to moderate all inappropriate content posted to our social media pages and remove it from public view. On occasion, something that does not meet our terms of use may not be moderated or may be visible for a period of time.
Monitoring and response
We monitor our social media pages regularly during business hours. We read all comments and do our best to respond to questions and feedback sent to us via our social media pages. Due to the large volume of comments we receive, we may not be able to get back to you quickly.
When there are common topics and requests, we may issue a general notification instead of responding to individual comments.
Do not report crime or issues that require urgent assistance via our social media accounts. Instead, we recommend you:
- call 000 for urgent assistance and to report a serious crime in progress
- call the Police Assistance Line on 131 444 for non-urgent assistance.
Your privacy
Please do not provide personal information in public comments or posts on our social media pages. If you do this, we will endeavour to hide the comment or post. However, your information may still be visible to other users for a period of time.
We will only use your information in line with our privacy policy.

Being followed or re-tweeted by the department does not imply endorsement of any kind.
Any views expressed on our social media account(s) by anyone other than our department are not the views of our department. They are also not endorsed or otherwise supported by our department. The Government of South Australia disclaims all liability for any such views, comments, advertising or other non-departmental content posted onto this site.
