Frequently Asked Questions

Browse the range of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) relating to the Crafers Park 'n' Ride.

The FAQs will be updated regularly to answer common questions from the community and stakeholders.

How much will the project cost?

As part of the $19 million commitment to improve transport to support growth in Mount Barker and the Adelaide Hills, the South Australian Government has committed $6 million towards the delivery of additional parking at the Crafers Park ‘n’ Ride facility.

During construction, will there be any changes to the existing Park ‘n’ Ride?

No.  The existing Park ‘n’ Ride will continue to operate as usual.

Why is the project needed?

The Crafers Park ‘n’ Ride facility is the closest Park ‘n’ Ride facility to the city in the Adelaide Hills region and this additional parking will encourage use of public transport and reduce private car use.

The key objectives of the project are to increase the capacity of the Park ‘n’ Ride facility, improve safety and security and maintain access to the existing bus stops and parking.

Current parking is at capacity and the new facility will reduce the need for people to park on local streets.

What options were considered?

We considered extending the current Crafers Park ‘n’ Ride facility on the northern side, however a new facility southeast of the existing Crafers Park ‘n’ Ride facility, next to the Crafers off ramp (westbound) and the South Eastern Freeway will provide more parking for Park ‘n’ Ride users.

Where will the new facility be located?

The new Park ‘n’ Ride facility will be built to the southeast of the existing Crafers Park ‘n’ Ride facility, next to the Crafers off ramp (westbound) and the South Eastern Freeway.

When will it be open?

The new facility is expected to be available for use by public transport customers in mid 2024.

What does the project include?

There’ll be 85 new car parking spaces, including two accessible bays and motorcycle parking.

We’re also installing CCTV, LED lighting, wayfinding signage, pedestrian connectivity, and new landscaping and trees will be planted.

Will we have to pay a fee to use the new facility?

No. Parking in the new Park ‘n’ Ride facility will be free.

How will users enter and exit the new Park ’n’ Ride?

Entry to the new facility will be from the Waverley Ridge Road roundabout, and exit will be via the Crafers off ramp (west bound).

Will there be bike storage facilities?

Bike hoops and bike lockers are available at the existing Park ‘n’ Ride.  For information on bike lockers, please visit www.adelaidemetro.com.au

How will pedestrians move between the new facility and interchange?

Pedestrians will be able to use the existing footpaths and road crossings.

How many trees will be removed?

Two significant trees and eight regulated trees will need to be removed. Pruning of one other regulated tree and removal of shrubs, less mature trees and ground covering, is also required.

A Vegetation Management Fact Sheet is available here for more information.

What landscaping is planned?

A landscaping plan is being developed to balance local amenity and maintenance requirements in the new Park ‘n’ Ride facility.

Once finalised, these plans will be available on the project website.

Where will site vehicles be parked during construction?

Plant and equipment will be based on site. While works are occurring, contractor light vehicles will be parked away from the existing Park ‘n’ Ride and away from Waverley Ridge Road in consultation with the Adelaide Hills Council.

How long will the project take?

The project site has been established, and construction started on Monday 5 February 2024.

The new Park ‘n’ Ride facility is expected to be open for use in mid 2024.

Will there be any night works?

Most of the work will be done during the day, Monday to Friday between 7am and 5pm.  There may be some weekend work required.  Advance notification will be provided to residents and the community of any night works.

Will bus services be affected?

Existing Adelaide Metro bus services will operate as usual during construction.

How will dust be managed during construction?

Whilst dust cannot be completely eliminated during the construction, every effort will be made to minimise dust during our works.

How will vibration be managed during works?

During construction, nearby residents and businesses may feel vibration from construction activities using large excavators, vibrating rollers, or from the movement of heavy machinery. Experiencing vibration does not mean that structural damage to properties will occur.

To help minimise the effect of construction vibration, a range of measures are in place including:

  • operating equipment on the lowest effective vibration setting;
  • maintaining low speed limits for construction trucks and machinery;
  • maintaining equipment to minimise vibration;
  • consideration of alternative construction methodologies where appropriate; and
  • consideration for vibration monitoring equipment in strategic locations to monitor vibration levels to ensure they do not exceed compliance levels.
