How to Apply for a Jetty Renewal Project

Local Governments (Councils) which are responsible for one or more divested jetties within South Australia are eligible to seek a funding contribution for a project to repair/upgrade its divested jetty or jetties.

Stage 1 applications will need to be lodged by 15th December 2023, via the Smarty Grants portal.

Where necessary, councils must contribute financially to the project and be willing to extend divestment arrangements with the State for a minimum of 15 years post project completion.

Application Categories and Stages

The project application process consists of 1 or 2 stages, depending on the project’s cost as outlined below:

Stage 1 Application - Preliminary Appraisal or Funding Request

  • Category 1 – A total project cost estimated at less than $1.0m, can be submitted as a Stage 1 application for funding assistance.  No stage 2 application is required.
  • Category 2 – A total project cost estimated at more than $1.0m, can be submitted as a Stage 1 application for preliminary appraisal.  If the project is shortlisted, it will proceed to a Stage 2 Application as detailed below.

Stage 2 Application – Funding Request (Invitation Only)

The Council will be invited to submit a more detailed application for assessment and funding assistance by the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (Department).

The Department will work with the Council to develop the detailed scope to facilitate project objectives.

Screening

Once an application has been received, it will be reviewed by the Department to ensure that all relevant information has been provided and to follow up any aspects that require clarification.

All cleared applications will then be referred to the SA Jetties Renewal Program Advisory Committee (the Committee).

Assessment Process

The Committee will assess applications, taking into account the following:

  • Project’s value for money.
  • Future management arrangements.
  • Economic, tourism, environmental and social benefits.
  • Local Council’s capacity and capability to deliver the work.

The Committee’s recommendation will be forwarded to the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport (Minister). Following the Minister’s consideration, applicants will be formally advised of the outcome of their proposal.
