More flexibility for passenger transport vehicle registrations

Monday, 31 August 2020

The Department for Infrastructure and Transport has streamlined the vehicle inspection system for taxis, rideshares, buses and chauffeur vehicles to save time and money for owners, and provide them with increased flexibility to do business.

Approximately 8500 passenger transport vehicles registered in South Australia are required to undergo periodic inspections to ensure the vehicle is roadworthy and safe to carry passengers.

Under the current inspection system, passenger transport vehicle owners need to attend a Service SA Customer Service Centre and present a current inspection certificate, from an Approved Vehicle Inspector, in order to renew their registration.

From September 1, Approved Vehicle Inspectors will be able to enter the results of passenger transport vehicle inspections directly into the Department’s register of motor vehicles, removing the requirement for the owner to physically present a current inspection certificate to a Service SA centre.

Instead, passenger transport vehicle owners will now have the choice of renewing their vehicle registration on the EzyReg app, online at, over the phone, or in person at a Service SA centre.

Passenger transport vehicle owners with a mySA Gov account will have the option to set up automatic direct debit payments, with the flexibility to pay registration monthly, by quarter, or annually.

This will provide vehicle owners with the convenience and flexibility to do what’s important to them to run their business, while also improving waiting times and efficiency at Service SA centres.

Owners and passengers will also be able to view the current inspection status of a passenger transport vehicle through the EzyReg app or online at, to give them confidence the vehicle they are travelling in is safe and roadworthy.
