O'Sullivan Beach Boat Ramp Maintenance Dredging
Introduction
We are undertaking maintenance dredging at O’Sullivan Beach Boat Ramp to remove built up sand from the inner basin and extending out through the entrance.
Maintenance dredging is required to remove an accumulation of 6,000m3 of sandy materials, as is periodically required at this location. Maintenance dredging will ensure a navigable channel for a further 5 years and enhances the upgrade to the O’Sullivan Beach Boat Ramp that was finalised in 2023.
What to expect?
Works are scheduled to commence in May 2024 for a period of three weeks, subject to weather and operational delays.
Hours of dredging will be 24 hours, 7 days per week.
Some discolouration of a section of the beach due to deposition of dredged sandy materials could be expected and should not persist beyond winter storms.
This activity will not require the closure of the boat ramp and beach access will be maintained as shown below.
Traffic and pedestrian management
Access to O’Sullivan Beach and the boat ramp car park will remain accessible throughout the dredging operation. Beach access and the car park will remain open to the public. Pedestrians are advised to take care whilst in the area and observe signage of path and boat ramp usage. For your safety, we ask you not to enter fenced off areas. Please refer to our cutter suction Dredge Layout Plan and Dredge Safety Instructions.
Every effort will be made to reduce the impacts of dredging operations however there may be some noise from the dredging activities.
1. There will be civil machinery in this area. Machinery will be monitored by a spotter while being operated and placed into the site compound while not operational.
2. Can be removed at MC discretion based on weather forecast.
3. This area will be delineated with temporary fencing.
