Horrocks Highway Upgrades
The Horrocks Highway Corridor Upgrade is focussed on upgrading the 245 kilometres length of highway between Wilmington and Gawler, to improve safety, connectivity and freight efficiency, whilst importantly creating jobs.
Works include shoulder sealing, pavement rehabilitation, lane widening, sealing of local road approaches, new overtaking lanes and overtaking lane extensions, bridge upgrades, safety barrier, Audio Tactile Line Marking (ATLM) on edge-lines and centreline and improvements to the Gladstone rail corridor and level crossing.
To date, $94.8 million has been committed for improvements to the Horrocks Highway, which is jointly funded by the Australian and South Australian governments (80:20).
The funding programs include:
- $55 million from the Horrocks Highway Corridor program, which forms part of the $330 million South Australian Rural Roads (SARR) Package.
- $1.1 million from the first stimulus Targeted Road Safety Works, which forms part of the $144.5 million Road Infrastructure Safety Package.
- $38.7 million from the second stimulus works $315 million Road Safety Package.
Latest News
Pavement rehabilitation works have now been completed between Wilmington and Murray Town, with final line marking work to be completed in March 2022, weather permitting.
Following the completion of re-sealing and pavement rehabilitation works speed restrictions remain in place on the newly resurfaced section of road to enable excess bitumen on the new surface to be worn to a safe texture level (this is in relation to the skid resistance of the road surface), prior to the posted speed limit being reinstated.
The Department appreciates your cooperation and patience while these important works are undertaken.
