The South Australian Government has preserved a corridor of land at Aldinga for a future extension of the Seaford rail line to Aldinga. The 60 metre wide corridor from Quinliven Road to Aldinga Beach Road provides long-term options for the growing southern suburbs.
Although there are no plans in the next decade to build a train extension to Aldinga, the Department for Infrastructure and Transport has undertaken preliminary planning to determine what a future extension might look like. When will the project be delivered?
There are no immediate plans to extend the Seaford rail line to Aldinga. The corridor of land within the subject site at Aldinga will allow for a future extension to be pursued in the 2030s.
Will there be a level-crossing at Quinliven Road?
It is intended that there will be no new level crossings created by the future Aldinga rail line. A grade separated crossing of Quinliven Road will be achieved by lowering the rail through the corridor, similar to the existing Seaford rail line crossings of Seaford Road and Lynton Terrace in Seaford.
How will I cross the rail corridor once the rail line is completed?
Access across the corridor will be facilitated at Quinliven Road, Aldinga Beach Road and via a future east-west road located between Quinliven Road and Aldinga Beach Road. Access across the corridor for people walking and riding will be facilitated at the two proposed stations in Aldinga.
Where will the stations be located?
The proposed station locations will allow for future provision of accessible, efficient, and equitable transport options for the community and wider Fleurieu region, providing safe, accessible, and connected options for different travel modes (public transport, walking, cycling and private vehicles).
The proposed southern interchange station will be located near Aldinga Beach Road facilitating interchange between train and bus services. The station will be supported by land for a future Park ‘n’ Ride. A proposed northern station on the southern side of Quinliven Road will provide ‘walk up and ride up’ accessibility for the Aldinga Township, surrounding residential area, education facilities and sports precinct.
What will happen with the corridor in the meantime?
The land within the corridor will be available for use by the community as public open space similar to the existing section of the corridor between Griffiths Drive and Pedler Creek that is currently utilised by the Coast to Vines Trail.
What are the plans for the rest of the corridor between Seaford and Aldinga?
The alignment through Seaford and Seaford Rise will extend the existing rail lines at Seaford to the south past Griffiths Drive and along the vacant corridor that is currently utilised by the Coast to Vines Trail to Pedler Creek.
The alignment to the south between Seaford Rise and Aldinga will be determined following further investigations and analysis. This future planning work will be subject to funding.
