About the project

The Streaky Bay Jetty is a 340-meter-long iconic town jetty. It's a key tourist attraction in South Australia. The jetty pool, a shark-proof swimming enclosure active since 1936, along with the vessel berthing and mooring facilities, make Streaky Bay Jetty highly valuable to the local community, as well as commercial and recreational fishers.

The completed works were to:

• extend the jetty’s lifespan
• improve safety for all users
• enhance the overall jetty user experience.

These works were undertaken as part of the SA Jetties Renewal Program.

What's happening

Works are now complete and included:

• replacing structural timber piles with steel piles
  
• replacing decayed timber structures
  
• upgrading berthing and mooring structures with additional piles and rubber fenders at the sea end of the jetty
  
• installing new safety ladders for easier onboarding and offloading to and from berthed vessels
  
• new resting benches adjacent the jetty shelter
  
• extending handrails where needed.
  

The new berthing and mooring structures will accommodate vessels up to 70 tonnes (currently unrated). This will make sure Streaky Bay Jetty meets Marine Facilities Standards.
