Truro bypass

About the project

The Truro bypass is a priority project for Stage 1 of the High Productivity Vehicle Network (HPVN) program which is focused on improving freight productivity on existing corridors by moving more freight with less vehicles, enhancing safety for all road users.

The Truro bypass will allow heavy traffic to travel along a new Sturt Highway alignment away from the centre of the Truro township to improve safety and amenities in Truro’s main street, as well as freight efficiency.

A planning study for a Truro bypass to create an alternative route for the Sturt Highway directed away from the centre of the Truro township and past Accommodation Hill was completed in 2022.

What's happening

The Department is undertaking planning investigations for Truro Bypass. The Bypass is incorporated as part of Stage 1 High Productivity Vehicle Network (HPVN). An ecological field investigation was completed in the Accommodation Hill area in February 2026.

We will continue to engage with industry, state and local governments, as well as communities along the HPV Network alignment to help inform the planning for these priority projects as well as overall improvements to the HPV Network.
