Greater Adelaide Freight Bypass

About the project

The Greater Adelaide Freight Bypass is a priority project for Stage 1 of the High Productivity Vehicle Network (HPVN) program which is focused on improving freight productivity on existing corridors by moving more with less vehicles, enhancing safety for all road users.

Infrastructure improvements to existing freight routes that connect the South Eastern Freeway and Sturt Highway will be made safer with junction upgrades, rest areas, overtaking lanes, grade separations, road widening, town bypass upgrades and road duplications being investigated.

What's happening

The Department will now progress project specific business cases required to support delivery of the Greater Adelaide Freight Bypass and Swanport Bridge upgrade projects for stage 1 of the High Productivity Vehicle Network program.

The completion of these business cases is scheduled for the second half of 2026.
