P1 provisional licence

This is what you have to do to get a P1 provisional licence.

You have to be 17 or older.
You have to pass a Hazard Perception Test (HPT) at a Customer Service Centre. There's a fee each time you take the test.
If you're under 25 you must have had a learner's permit for at least 12 months.
If you're over 25 you must have had a learner's permit for at least 6 months.
You have to complete 75 hours of supervised driving with a qualified supervising driver. This must include at least 15 hours driving at night. These hours must be recorded in your learner driver logbook.
You have to pass either a Vehicle On Road Test (VORT) or a Competency Based Training & Assessment (CBT&A) course.

When you get your P1 licence, you'll be able to drive under these conditions.

If you're driving with a P1 provisional licence, you need P-plates on the vehicle so other drivers know you're an inexperienced driver.

High powered vehicle restrictions apply: if you are a provisional licence holder under the age of 25 and you obtained your P1 on or after 4 September 2010
High powered vehicle restrictions apply: if you were disqualified and returned to driving on a P1 licence on or after 4 September 2010.
If you hold a Learner's Permit or Provisional Licence and you accumulate 4 or more demerit points you could lose your right to drive for at least six months.
