Northern Connector Project connecting job seekers with opportunities

March 2017

A graduation ceremony was held at the Northern Connector Project recently where six participants were awarded a Certificate II in Civil Construction.

Lee Odenwalder, head of the Northern Connector Project Jobs Task force presented the certificates along with George Panagopoulos, DIT's Northern Connector Project Manager and head contractor Lendlease's Project Director, Danny Parkinson (all pictured below with graduates).

The course was offered to a number of project employees who had made the transition to the construction industry from other industries, including automotive, plumbing and carpentry trades.

The course involved a practical component, involving simulations of real site work, including measuring areas for compacting, setting string lines and use of plate compactors.

This is the first Certificate II Civil Construction course run by Lendlease. It will be offered in the future through NorthHub to new existing employees who are identified as benefiting from further upskilling for work on the project.

The training program has given graduates exceptional experience in the construction industry. As work continues on the Northern Connector more programs will provide further training and job opportunities for local residents in Adelaide.
