Port Lincoln Intersection Safety Upgrade Project

We are undertaking improvements to the Eyre Peninsula road network. The program aims to deliver improvements to freight movements, road safety, amenity, connectivity and support regional economic growth.  These works are funded by the Australian and South Australian governments. 

Locations include:

  • Flinders Highway/Light Street and Lincoln Highway/Hallet Place
  • New West Road/Lewis Street and Hallet Place
  • Hallet Place/Liverpool Street and Adelaide Place
  • Liverpool Street and Mortlock Terrace/Bligh Street

Major works have commenced on the four key intersections along Lincoln Highway through central Port Lincoln. Works at the Flinders Highway/Light Street and New West Road/Lewis Street intersections are expected to be complete by May 2024. Works will commence at the Hallet Place / Liverpool Street / Adelaide Place and the Liverpool Street / Mortlock Terrace / Bligh Street intersections along the Lincoln Highway in mid-March 2024 with all works to be completed in July 2024. 

Pavement rehabilitation works will be undertaken along Lincoln Highway through central Port Lincoln from Flinders Highway to Mortlock Terrace, including the parking bays. To minimise impacts to the local community these works will be carried out at night and will move progressively along the Highway as the works progress. Read the latest project update.

Lincoln Highway intersection with Mortlock Terrace and Bligh Street

Proposed treatments include modifications to improve vehicle turning, provision of improved facilities for pedestrians, renewal of road surfaces, improved road lighting, modifications to kerbs gutters and medians, and new line markings.

Pavement  Renewal Work

As part of this program, pavement renewal works will be undertaken along the main street (Lincoln Highway and Liverpool Street) and nearby locations in the centre of Port Lincoln, including the car parking bays. These works will be delivered in conjunction with the City of Port Lincoln.

The first stage of pavement renewal work on Liverpool Street, Porter Street, London Street and The Lebrun Street commenced in February 2023 and was completed in April 2023.

The second stage of pavement renewal work will be undertaken on the Lincoln Highway, from Flinders Highway to Mortlock Terrace. These works will be undertaken in conjunction with the four planned intersection upgrades in 2024.

Porter Street, Liverpool Street and Railway place intersection upgrade

We are progressing with planning works for the upgrade of the Porter Street, Liverpool Street and Railway place intersection. The $4.5 million upgrade is jointly funded by the Australian (80%) and South Australian (20%) governments. We look forward to sharing more information in the coming months.
