Tram Grade Separation Projects
Temporary Tram closures
The Glenelg tram line is now closed between South Terrace and Moseley Square, Glenelg, until January 2026, with full services resuming for the start of the school year in 2026. This will enable us to fast-tracking construction of the overpasses and reduce impacts on local residents, businesses, road and public transport users.
For substitute bus timetables go to Adelaide Metro tram line closure.
About the project
We're working with the Tram Grade Separation Projects Alliance to:
- make journeys safer and more reliable for everyone
- improve safety for local residents, motorists, pedestrians, cyclists and tram drivers
- provide new, safer and more accessible tram stops with improved pedestrian access
- improve connection and sense of community between the suburbs either side of the tram line
- elevate the Mike Turtur bikeway as a shared use path alongside the tram line
- create new community open space under the overpasses for locals to enjoy.
What's happening
We are removing three level crossings where the Glenelg tram line crosses:
- Marion Road, Plympton
- Cross Road, Plympton
- Morphett Road, Morphettville.
We are also rebuilding the South Road Tram Overpass to accommodate the River Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Project lowered motorway.
