Lincoln Highway Safety Upgrades

Lincoln Highway Safety Upgrades

We made upgrades on the Lincoln Highway between Tumby Bay and Whyalla. Works included shoulder widening, shoulder sealing, new line marking and vegetation

About the project

Works on the Lincoln Highway between Tumby Bay and Whyalla are now complete.

This project formed part of the $168 million National Road Safety Program, jointly funded by the Australian (50%) and South Australian (50%) governments.

Completed works on the Lincoln Highway between Tumby Bay and Whyalla included:

  • Shoulder widening
  • Shoulder sealing
  • New line marking
  • Vegetation management

Over the coming months we will be undertaking Audio Tactile Line Marking (ATLM) installation across completed projects. ATLM is used to reduce rural ‘run-off-road’ road crashes by providing a noise (audio) and vibratory (tactile) warning to road users.

Project background

Extending approximately 219 km, the Lincoln Highway safety upgrade works started in Tumby Bay and progressed towards Whyalla.

The Lincoln Highway is a key transport corridor for farming, freight and tourist movements in and around the Eyre Peninsular and these upgrades will deliver improvements to freight movements, support regional economic growth and improve safety for all road users.
