About the project

The Riddoch Highway is a key transport corridor for farming, freight and tourist movements in and out of South Australia. Upgrading the Riddoch Highway will:

  • provide safer overtaking options
  • increase efficiency for road users and freight vehicles
  • reduce driver fatigue associated with increased passenger vehicle efficiency
  • lower journey times for all road users.

This project forms part of the South Australian Rural Roads Safety Package.

What's happening

The new overtaking lanes will include:

  • construction of a new southbound overtaking lane between Padthaway and Naracoorte
  • increased lane widths, alongside a 1.4m wide centreline treatment
  • new pavement construction and surfacing
  • construction of a new Weigh In Motion
  • new audio tactile Line Marking
  • roadside hazard protection.

Vegetation management

We understand that trees are highly valued by the community. The project has been carefully designed to minimise vegetation impacts as much as possible however removal of some trees and vegetation will be required throughout the construction.
