Message from the Chief Executive
‘I Work for SA’ survey open
I encourage all staff to complete the new ‘I Work for SA’ public sector wide survey, which will be open until 28 May.
You can click on the link above to access the survey or scan a QR code on posters going up in all DIT workplaces. Participation is voluntary, confidential and completely anonymous.
The same survey was run in 2018 and provided benchmarks along with valuable insights on possible improvements to the work experience.
This survey is your opportunity to provide feedback on achievements that came from 2018 as you assess your workplace in 2021. Results will inform our next steps to making our Department an employer of first choice.
DIT at the Industry Showcase Expo
Congratulations to those involved in our strong presence at Wednesday’s inaugural Industry Showcase Expo at the Wayville Showgrounds this week.
Organised by the Office of the Industry Advocate, the event was an opportunity for South Australian businesses to demonstrate their capability and be made aware of our requirements. More than 50 organisations were represented, ranging from other state government departments to the hospitality and technology development industries.
We were well represented by four specialist staff and valuable contacts were made that should benefit all stakeholders.
(Left to Right) Neil Murphy, Small Business Engagement; Sam Miceli (obscured, talking to Neil), Building Projects Procurement; John Fitzgerald, Goods and Services Procurement and Harold Carn, Construction Procurement.
Delivering and digging in
Our infrastructure pipeline continues to deliver, with one project nearing completion and another set to start. Last Friday, the realigned Goodwood, Springbank and Daws Road intersection opened while the first sod was turned for the multi-storey Golden Grove Park n Ride.
These are projects that will make a real difference in our city, with 450 new vehicle spaces at the Golden Grove interchange enabling easier and increased patronage of O-Bahn bus services and the Springbank intersection being resolved after decades of community and commuter concern.
Well done to all of those involved.

Floor refurb for diesel fleet
Our 70 diesel railcars are having their floors refurbished to maintain the fleet’s high standards for Adelaide Metro customers.
Besides the floor refurbishment, which consists of the complete replacement of the floor structure and having graffiti resistant rubberised vinyl installed, the project includes double USB outlets added to the back side of doorway weather shields; new weatherproof walkways between railcars, and step tread extensions to reduce the platform gap.
Two railcars have been completed, with three in the workshop to be followed by the rest of the fleet.
While electrification is our present and future, the diesel railcar fleet will continue to have an important role in Adelaide Metro’s rail system and the work of the diesel engineering and maintenance team at Dry Creek is greatly appreciated.

Planning for the right outcome
Our Transport Project Planning team have done some great work that culminated in the announcement yesterday of three concept designs for alternative vehicle access to and around Hahndorf, to help inform the Hahndorf Township Improvements and Access Upgrade Project.
The work that goes into gaining an early understanding of community, heritage, tourism and access requirements is immense and we have an excellent team working behind the scenes to help make important developments such as this a reality. The concept designs will now be available for public consultation.

Staff Spotlight falls on …
After several visits to friends in Murray Bridge and falling in love with Australia, Kevin Yorke is making a mark at Murray Bridge’s Service SA. It’s been quite the whirlwind since arriving from the UK in March 2020, just as COVID-19 travel restrictions began to tighten, landing a short-term job with Peregrine Corporation at Norwood before securing a position at the Murray Bridge Service SA centre in October.
With an impressive background in customer service, the timing was perfect and Kevin has been a welcome addition to the Murray Bridge team, stepping up to be Acting Assistant Manager.
Friday Flashback
Today’s Friday Flashback shows holiday crowds along King William Street and at the North Terrace intersection in 1919. Four electric trams are seen, delivering passengers to what clearly was the place to be.
