Safety out and about
With summer holidays just around the corner it was the ideal time for our Marine Safety team to touch base with the boating public at the SA Boat and Fishing Show last weekend.
The team offered safety advice, conducted boat licence examinations and encouraged passers-by to complete the Boating Safety Survey, which will help provide an up-to-date picture of current boating law compliance and understanding.
More than 150 survey responses were completed at the show, with more promotional flyers handed out so that people could complete the online survey later. The number of responses is now climbing towards 900.

Just a Mo
It’s that time of year when men start to bristle with pride as they take on the Movember challenge to raise awareness of men’s health issues.
Once again DPTI is highlighting this important campaign by adding impressive moustaches to the front of 10 trams and five buses.
A number of DPTI staff let their top lip grow wild last year and we are hoping even more will get involved this time. There is also the option to take up the Move for Movember quest by pledging to walk 60km over the month to put a focus on the fact that 60 men are lost to suicide each hour across the world.
Departments may also opt to host a Mo-Ment, which is about getting the team together for an event that focuses on having a good time and raising funds for a great cause. More information about Movember options is available here.

Smooth run
Community events can have a big impact on traffic, so it was pleasing to see our Traffic Management Centre team acknowledged for their role in the smooth running of this year’s Bay to Birdwood car run.
The Bay to Birdwood is the largest continually held motoring event for veteran, vintage and classic vehicles in the world and making sure the line-up of cars can complete the journey with a minimum of disruption takes considerable planning and real-time intervention as the rally moves along the route.
The organisers of the event sent a plaque and letter of thanks to the Traffic Management Centre to acknowledge their great work this year. Once again we see goodwill built up by providing great customer service.

PRIDE march
The 2019 PRIDE March will be held tomorrow, 2 November, and all SA Government staff are invited to take part under the “South Australian Government Supports Social Inclusion” banner.
Everyone is welcome to join the march, whether you identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex or queer (LGBTIQ), wish to support friends, family or colleagues who identify as LGBTIQ, or simply want to demonstrate personal support for the diversity that makes South Australia a great place to live.
Sharing knowledge
Members of the Customer, Community and Public Affairs directorate took a trip to the Northern Connector Project site this week as the completion of the impressive construction draws closer.
After a tour of the site there was the chance to share learnings gained from the complexities of creating this important link in the North-South Corridor.
It’s important that we share our knowledge from project to project and task to task, and learn from each other’s experiences.
