A Friday Note - 22 June 2018

Dear all,

One of the Government’s key election commitments was “People Focused Public Transport”, which included a commitment to establish a South Australian Public Transport Authority (SAPTA).

The DPTI executive has been progressing this initiative with the Minister and working towards a strategy which involves a 12-month transition plan towards SAPTA’s introduction.

The transition has a number of phases, which will all involve significant consultation and engagement.

We will establish an internal Steering Committee immediately and also move quickly to appoint the inaugural Chair of SAPTA so the Chair, DPTI and the Minister can work together over the coming 12 months to plan and implement the transition of Public Transport to SAPTA.

Importantly, the transition will focus on the foundations for SAPTA by setting a clear Public Transport Strategy and associated delivery and operating models which support the Government’s vision for the public transport system. In the meantime, it is business as usual for staff involved in delivering public transport services for our customers.

Reconciliation events

The Field Services Section and regional offices have continued to deliver Reconciliation events at Walkley Heights and  Murray Bridge in recent weeks,  with a further event scheduled for Port Augusta next Tuesday.

Key messaging is the reconciliation week theme of “Don’t keep history a mystery” and the rollout of the DPTI 4 Step Cultural Footprint Program.

Innovation recognised

An engineer involved in the design of the Torrens Rail Junction (TRJ) Project has won the 2018 AGS (Sydney) Young Geotechnical Professional Award.

Douglas Warne presented at the Young Geotechnical Professionals Night  on 'FE modelling of unsaturated soil behaviour for design of retaining structures of TRJ project'.

DPTI was widely recognised for the implementation of this approach.

We are grateful to staff involved in providing approvals or material for the presentation, as support for the younger generation is important to us as an organisation.

Corporate Cup

More than 200 DPTI staff are in exercise mode after signing up for the Corporate Cup, which starts in August.

It’s good to see our staff taking steps to keep healthy and thanks must go to Paul Wyatt, Irene Kennedy and Celeste Peacock for organising the DPTI team.
