A Friday Note - 21 September 2018

This weekend, the Torrens Road to Rivers Torrens Project is holding an event to say thank you to the local community and businesses for their patience while this important project is delivered.

It will also give people a chance to take a tour of the lowered motorway – with bus tours leaving every 30 minutes from 11:30am to 2:30pm.

There will be a free sausage sizzle, community and business displays, free activities for children and family-friendly entertainment.

The T2T project is nearing completion, with the lowered motorway expected to deliver significant time savings for motorists.

Sunday’s event will run from 11am to 3pm in South Road’s lowered motorway, under the Port Road bridge.

Safe signage

The department has commenced trialling of a Rural Junction Active Warning System on Cudlee Creek Road to improve safety on SA’s regional roads.

The system addresses safety at high-risk rural junctions through the installation of variable speed limit signs at junction approaches, which are radar triggered by traffic approaching from side roads.

Three more locations will be operating by mid-October, weather permitting.

New planning video

DPTI’s Planning and Development Directorate is producing a range of videos to communicate with its stakeholders and this week released a short animation, South Australia’s New Planning System, inspired by our planning reform.

The animation takes you on a journey through the new planning system, outlining the changes ahead for the state’s future development and emphasising the benefits for all South Australians.

Cut them up, not out

As you would have seen, the recent contamination scare affecting Australian-grown strawberries continues to take a toll on fruit growers around the country. Fruit worth thousands of dollars has been dumped and there are flow on effects to local greengrocers, supermarkets and other industries that use locally-made strawberries.

With the SA strawberry season about to start, I’d urge you to keep supporting local growers and those across the country: “cut ‘em up, don’t cut ‘em out”.
