Cadetships
Eligibility
You are eligible to apply for a cadetship if you:
- are aged between 17-24 years
- are of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent
- have a Declared Disability
- are Long Term Unemployed
- have been or are under State Care
Length of Cadetship
Cadets are placed on a two year Employment and Training Contract with The Department which covers both the paid work placement and training components of the cadetship.
Benefits
Payments for cadets
Payment for cadets is individually negotiated and takes into account the experience that cadets bring to the department.
Guarantee of employment
Cadets who have performed to the standards expected by the department and who have met all the learning criteria within their award will be offered ongoing status, providing there is a position within that division of the department to offer that person. The department also sponsors Aboriginal students through the Yurangka Kari - cadetships undergraduate degree and the Yurangka Kari - cadetships Diploma and advanced diploma cadetships.
