Way2Go Walktober a success at Woodend Primary School

new footpathWoodend Primary School have just finished another successful Way2Go Walktober. Way2Go Walktober encourages primary school aged children and their families to walk, ride or scoot to school more often during October. The students and families at Woodend really embraced Way2Go Walktober this year with 4029 active travel trips recorded over a two week period compared to 2213 trips in 2018.

Students used a Way2Go Walktober map showing some common routes to school to help them participate. Many students and families used locations on the map as meeting points to walk, ride or scoot to school together. The school held a celebration assembly with certificates presented to the house and class challenge winners by Minister David Speirs. Students were excited to win either extra sports time or ice blocks.

A new shared pathway funded by the government with in kind support from the City of Marion has recently been completed. The new pathway encourages students to actively travel to and from school all year round.
